Art Ramble 2010

The Art Ramble brought out lots of folks to see the galleries around Lake Oconee and Greenboro. Art of Oconee welcomed old friends and new visitors all day Friday and Saturday. Of course, the Ramble wouldn't be complete without our artists demonstrating their painting expertise! Shannon Candler, Cathy McIntire, Gail Vail, and David Siffert all painted on site during the event.

Autumn Version of Art and Shop Walk Better Than Ever!!!

Art and Shop Walk at Lake Oconee Village last Thursday night brought out folks from all around. Seven shops around the Parkside Commons address participated and the parking lots were filled with people obviously enjoying the gorgeous fall weather. As usual, we at Art of Oconee provided a HUGE spread of delectable hors d'oeuvres (some would say dinner...)

and a superb selection of white and red wines...
Many friends of the gallery came, along with lots of new faces! We were happy to have so many folks come by and we now look forward to our Spring version in April!
Meanwhile, Art Ramble is just around the corner, so don't forget November 19 and 20 for that!

She and husband Michael Reinsch are opening their doors this Thursday for a Grand Opening Celebration. Be sure to attend, and bring your own photo. There will be a vote for one lucky person to get a free masterpiece from Paint Your Picture. Congrats Tracy!!!

Art of Oconee hosted a special after hours event for members of OPAS last Friday. A gallery full of visitors provided a great evening for all. Several OPAS members left with art originals that included artwork and one-of-a-kind jewelry.
Visitors were anxious to get their names in the glass bowl for AOO's drawing for an original Kendall Boggs painting, scheduled for Friday, July 30. We'll have a wine and cheese reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

About the artist:
Kendall Boggs, artist member of Art of Oconee gallery, decided to seriously focus on her art a couple years ago. An Interior Designer by trade, Kendall began painting about five years ago for fun and as a creative outlet for her inexhaustible energy level. She has only been marketing her work a year and a half, but already has 50 paintings sold to collectors. She was invited to show her work in Jackson, Mississippi this spring, and that resulted in another invitation for a solo show in Greenwood, Mississippi, scheduled for September. She recently was selected to participate in two annual fundraising events in Atlanta. Both The Trinity School and the Wesleyan School in Atlanta have annual Art Shows that have grown in reputation and popularity over the years. Being asked to participate in both has raised awareness of artist Kendall Boggs, as well as resulting in multiple sales of her paintings. Kendall’s paintings are heavily textured acrylic on canvas. She prefers large over small, and paints from memory rather than reference. More of her work can be seen at Art of Oconee.

Art and Shop Walk Rocks!

Tons of folks turned out for the Art and Shop Walk at our own Lake Oconee Village, helping us celebrate SPRING! It seems people were ready to finally shed Winter and usher in the beautiful springtime weather that Lake Oconee is known for. All our neighbors stayed open too, so the parking lot was truly filled with people visiting the shops AND each other!
We enjoyed this so much that we plan to keep our doors open during all the upcoming Lake Oconee Village special events this summer, beginning with the LOV Picnic on Saturday, May 15th. Look for our balloons!

New Work From Our Gallery Artists!!

We're getting ready for Art and Shop Walk on Thursday, April 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.
We've brought in new work, re-hung all the walls, and have plans for a fabulous event! Our neighbors here at Parkside Commons will be open as well.
Artist member Denise Bush has organized a silent auction of our work and that of other local artists and businesses. Half of the proceeds will go directly to OPAS, so look for our tent outside the gallery for a gorgeous display of all these items. Then come inside the gallery for a little wine, refreshment, and visit with all of us at the gallery. We look forward to seeing you!

Yes You Can! ...PAINT!

Art of Oconee is now hosting Quick Start To Oil Painting with Artist and Gallery Partner Nan McGarity. This class has been wildly popular at Nan's Historic Mill Studio, so when she offered to bring it to the gallery we thought it was a fabulous idea!

If you have ever thought about learning to paint, this is the perfect opportunity for your first foray into oil painting. Nan has designed this introduction as a fun day of painting and instant gratification with a brush and paint. Each student will complete a painting by the end of the day. Frames will also be available for purchase. The best part is, no experience is required – just a desire to paint.

Happy New Year!

Our doors have been open for less than a year but with the arrival of January it truly feels like a new year, both literally and figuratively. We are looking forward to 2010.

It is also a time for reflection and looking back at our first (9 month) year. New businesses have tons of things to do to get started and we certainly felt the push to get it all done. Of course, having 14 capable and talented owners definitely increases the expertise available and lowers the work load for all of us.

Because of our efforts, Art of Oconee is becoming a familiar name in the area. The gallery always looks great, with a variety of art mediums and styles displayed well in a friendly environment. We have strived to keep the gallery looking neat and organized so visitors can focus on the art.

Most of our visitors gladly sign the guest book and look forward to hearing from us about future events. Art lovers in the area are becoming more familiar with Art of Oconee artists, by name and by their art.
